Why carers use Shiftium

See the rate upfront before you apply

Every shift shows the pay and the 10% platform fee before you apply, so you know exactly what you'll take home. No obligation to take work you don't want.

Paid the moment you're approved

Approval releases your pay immediately — no extra wait. No response after 3 working days? You're auto-approved and paid anyway, never weeks of chasing.

Your availability, your rules

Set the days, hours and travel distance that work for you. Decline anything that doesn't fit, with no penalty.

Upload your documents once

DBS, right to work and training live in your profile and are shared with every provider you work for.

CSA CPD Training, free for 30 days

230+ CPD-accredited courses, free certifications on your profile, and free right-to-work/ID checks — free for your first month, £10/month after. This is your access to the platform itself, not an optional add-on.

£40 for every carer you refer

Refer a friend and you each get £40 once they've completed 40 approved hours, or you've both been active for 6 months. Codes are generated in the app.

Working for yourself — what it costs

Every carer on Shiftium works as a self-employed independent contractor. Start free for 30 days; after that it's a simple membership plus a transparent 10% platform fee.

  • Platform fee 10% of the shift value, deducted automatically. The rate you see when applying is what you take home.
  • DBS check fee £61.05 (Basic or Standard), £89.05 (Enhanced). Paid during sign-up, before your check is submitted. Typically an allowable expense against your self-employed income at tax time.
  • CSA CPD Training free for 30 days, then £10/month after the trial. Required to apply for shifts — billed monthly after your free trial.

You're responsible for your own tax as a self-employed carer. Shiftium doesn't deduct it or give tax advice — see our self-employed guide for the basics.

Carer FAQ

Self-employed. You're in control — Shiftium connects you with shifts and pays you for them, but we're not your employer and don't supervise your work.
